Gym Buddy @ Toa Payoh ActiveSG Gym

Hello, I’m new to gym and just started going to the one at Toa Payoh, would like to go with someone so I won’t feel awkward as a lone girl doing workouts with all the guys staring. Preferably female and knows how the gym works cause I don’t really know which station to go for so I just go to the weights and dumbbells area. I go on weekends most of the time. Idm guys too but preferably those whom I can grow and learn with(not too buff). Thank you ☺️

In my opinion free weight movements and body weight movements are good for newcomers. Movements like weighted squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead press and rows (barbell or dumbbells) will build strength and muscle/lose fat depending on your goals. In addition, bodyweight movements such as pull-ups, pushups and dips are good for any goal as well. If you’re new and not confident I’m sure you can ask anyone in the gym on how to perform certain exercises and they’ll be glad to help. Some exercises might seem scary at first but just remember that your form is key and only add weight if form is ok. I only go there 1-2 times per week since I’m pretty busy.

@aphorism well personally I will do a little of everything it when I go. I don’t particularly focus on one thing tho. Except I don’t do heavy lifting but brench press is fine. I feel like giving advice is not my field but some basics one... probably like don’t forget your warm up and cool down , make sure your posture if perfect for everything you do. Always finish your reps and start slow I Guess. Too textbook advice 🤣
