Climbing in SEA

Hey! I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a short climb in Southeast Asia. Would be nice if its a multi day hike. But all recommendations would be appreciated!

I'm not sure how short climb and multi-day hike go together, but Mount Ophir comes to mind. It can be done in one full day, or over two days with camping at the midpoint. If you specify the type of hiking/climbing, and difficulty level, I might have a better suggestion.

thanks for the suggestion! short as in a 2d1n or 3d2n sort of thing. I did mt Rinjani previously and really enjoyed it. Something of a similar difficulty level would be good.

If you do Ophir (~1200m) over two days, you will have to carry your own tent, food, and water, which might be a new experience to try. Otherwise for something similar to Rinjani, you can try Kinabalu (4095m). It's 2d1n without carrying your own food/tent. It's supposed to be easier terrain than Rinjani, but higher elevation. It can be quite expensive though.

You can also try researching on Mt Agung and Mt Merapi, which are both volcanic terrain like Rinjani. However, they frequently open/close due to volcanic activity. Agung is really difficult.

I've been on Agung, agreed that it's a difficult climb, only went up to the crater rim haha. Will look at Mt Merapi. Thanks for the suggestion!

I just came back from Merbabu (next to Merapi) as Merapi is closed until further notice.

hi I'm an avid climber in SEA. Ive done Rinjani, Semeru, and Kerinci. :) i love Rinjani best, but due to the closure, i can recommend Semeru for you. But be mindful that Semeru summit is mentally and physically tough.

up to basecamp, Semeru hike is walk in the park prpvided youve got prior experience lugging your own 10kg backpack and doing multi-day climbs :)

ive done Merapi also. but that one isnt as demanding as the rest i feel haha. the only part thats tough is that youve to ascend and descent on same day. haha.

semeru and Rinjani have similar terrain throughout. but Semeru is only 1-way summit. meaning your route from start-basecamp-summit-end is the same as you walk back, while rinjani's route is new all the way (you can choose from sembalun-senaru or senaru-sembalun). Semeru up to basecamp is pretty level. ive carried 13kg in semeru and it was still pretty ez for me. but Rinjani have alot of elevation gain and loss as youre climbing a range of mountains (as compared to semeru, youre only climbing one mountain). i died in Rinjani with mere 10kg backpack lel.

i did a 3D2N semeru, and it was already considered quite relaxing. even managed to do a small photoshoot. however, 4D3N rinjani was just nice for me, amd photoshoot opportunities werent many despite having more scenic places to take photos in.
