vivid2100 Even if wanna shop, shop at Pet Lover's or any reputable shops. They'd have their own personal store checklist that confirms owners know of the responsibility of getting a pet. Pet Lover's also has a AVA checklist, and you gotta sign against it. Much better than the LFS. The LFS are of Malaysia origin, while the more reputable ones are from US breeders. Also, i notice that the LFS red eared sliders are much less active, probably no thanks to the overcrowding + no filtration present etc.

Actually if you are also into fishes, you all know what is the state of the lifestock in LFSes, for the cheap animals there. More expensive fishes like Frontosa in a dedicated cichlid fish shop would be a different scenario of course. So i'd recommend getting from a reputable shop first and foremost, if you don't wanna adopt. Unless if you know that the previous owner has done his/her due diligence of the keeping of the red eared slider before adoption. Actually red eared sliders are extremely easy to keep and they are far hardier than the vast majority of fishes.

Heartache to see many owners gave up their terrapins within 1-2 yrs. Think not many hv considered carefully when buying. Saw 2 young terras in an indoor pond today, poor babies... Tho less difficult to keep as compared to fishes, they do grow much bigger within few yrs n can live up to 30yrs if healthy. Vet visit cost to consider as well. Think twice n thrice b4 buying pls.

@christine-rejoice I think those 2 yearlings have a better life than 95% of the others here in SG. Such a large space. They'll do ok, there are kois in the indoor pond as well. Actually that is literally the perfect place to keep. heh....

@vivid2100 Many owners may think they'll be happier to swim in bigger pond with fishes. But ever consider their survival skill? I adopted 1 terra from pond- she's competitive & eats fast. Another boy adopted from home(domesticated), he can never win the gal when comes to eating speed & bullied by the gal sometimes. Don't think his survival skill is strong if he ended up in a pond, seriously... Just imagine all the while u live in a house with food everyday, then suddenly leave u on the street to find own food. Not all can survive...

@christine-rejoice I thought you said something about an indoor pond that they are in, and from what i see on your photo are beautiful kois + a water pump? ie That means someone/a group or company is managing it and keeping/feeding the animals. Don't worry too much, at least better than the REAL WORLD in Botanical Gdns, Queensway Mac, Haw Par Villa, reservoirs, where there are also predators.

@vivid2100 all of yours and christine's points aside. It is still ILLEGAL to abandon any animal.

These large bodies of water have lots of surface area : animals. The ammonia/nitrite levels are well in check, if there are plants, then nitrates also no issue. Don't have to change water and all those stuff, it's a nearly self-sufficient mini ecosystem as long as you are providing it with food and water top ups. At least better than the vast majority of keepers.......i am not kidding, you just have to check the adoption listings here and also youtube vids of local vets. eg https://www.youtube.com/user/99pups/search?query=red+eared+slider

@vivid2100 I believe you're not lying but abandoning pets is illegal and overpopulation of a non-native species is also dangerous to our own local eco system. It's also irresponsible to abandon them in these ponds, even with the parameters right ect. ect. what about them fighting with each other? sure, they show you all the nice ponds, but at the bottom, there are probably countless dead animals that died not because of natural deaths but because they couldnt adapt to their new environments.
