Cultural Revolution Era Publication Illustrated: Pictures on almost ALL pages / Content Black and White Good Condition 7/10 with All Pages intact Rare String Binding: Spine stress unavoidable as pages bounded together by hand. Covers and Pages age spotting and yellowing, as well as small tears and stains. Signature of ex owner's name at a corner behind front cover (Photo 1) Photo 2 Back Cover depicts a scene from a Revolutionary Opera (样板戏) performed by a child for an equally young audience with the slogan 学唱革命样板戏 誓做革命接班人 (Learn to Sing Revolutionary Operas Swear to be Heirs of the Revolution i.e to continue the revolution) There was no TV in the homes of these chinese children in the 70s, their early entertainment and indoctrination in communist / maoist ideas and philosophy were done concurrently through learning and performing of Revolutionary Songs and Operas. Planned and engineered during the Cultural Revolution by Jiang Qing 江青, the wife of Chairman Mao, eight revolutionary operas were produced, eighteen by the end of the period; they served as entertainment as well as propaganda for the masses. They told stories from China's recent revolutionary struggles against foreign and class enemies. They glorified the People's Liberation Army and the bravery of the common people, and showed Mao Zedong and his thought as playing the central role in the victory of socialism in China. Although they originated as operas, they soon appeared on LPs, in comic books, on posters, postcards, and stamps; on plates, teapots, wash basins, cigarette packages, vases, and calendars. They were performed or blasted from loudspeakers in schools, factories, and fields by special performing troupes. Photo 3 Table of Content I am harsh in my assessment of condition but still prefer not to deal with fussy buyers. I have easily 300 more CR 文革 period publications, calendar cards and other printed artifacts, as well as mao badges and pins that are listed or in the process of being listed.
