1986 Saddam Hussein Iraqi Twenty-Five Dinar Banknote
If you are old enough to remember the 1990-91 Gulf War or the 2003 invasion of Iraq, you may remember seeing U.S. and coalition soldiers bringing Saddam banknotes like this one home as a war souvenir. See Pictures 3 and 4 for a brief overview of the Gulf War (aka Operation Desert Shield from August 1990 to January 1991 and Operation Desert Storm from January to February 1991) This May 2003 New York Times article may bring back memories from the past (https://www.nytimes.com/2003/05/18/world/aftereffects-the-economy-his-face-still-gives-fits-as-saddam-dinar-soars.html) Now, you get the chance to own one for yourself at a reasonable price! Banknote colour tone is brown, green and black on a blue and multi-colour underprint Banknote obverse features charging Arab horsemen and a confident looking Saddam Hussein in military uniform Banknote reverse features the Martyr's Monument in Baghdad, Iraq It might be of some interest to know that the U.S. produed a propaganda leaflet modeled on the very same 25 Saddam dinar banknote you see in this listing. I can provide a copy of a short write up on the above leaflet. It was sent to me by a U.S. airman who was stationed at Incirlik AFB in Turkey in late 1991 where Lockheed MC-130 Hercules special operations aircraft took off to drop these propaganda leaflets on Iraqi soldiers. Just ask if you're interested. Condition as shown in photos - lightly circulated with a ripple through the centre but still in good condition for a three decade old banknote Will provide a soft plastic banknote sleeve free of charge and for extra protection Free normal mail to local addresses via Singpost at buyer's risk.
