2012 DPRK Commemorative North Korean Won Banknote Set (Part I)
In 2012, The Central Bank of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) issued a commemorative series of banknotes to commemorate the centenary birth of the late North Korean Great Leader, Kim Il Sung. Each banknote has the Korean letters “Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung’s 100th Birthday” stamped on its upper left hand corner. Banknote set consists of 5, 10, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000, and 5,000 won banknotes. The 5 won banknote depicts North Korean Worker Party members on its obverse side and a hydroelectric dam on its reverse side. The 10 won banknote depicts North Korean military members on its obverse side and the Patriotic Liberation War Victory Memorial in Pyongyang on its reverse side. The 50 won banknote depicts an engineer, farmer and intellectuals on its obverse side and a Worker’s Party of Korea founding monument on its reverse side. The 100 won banknote depicts North Korea’s national flower, Siebolds-Magnolia.
