2015 Malaysian Penny Black Stamp 175th Anniversary FDC
The Penny Black was the world's first adhesive postage stamp. It was issued for public use in the United Kingdom on May 1, 1840 - prior to the Penny Black, sending mail via the postal system was a complicated and hassle-filled business. It was the recipient who paid for the postage charge upon delivery at an amount which varied according to distance. The Penny Black changed all that by allowing letters up to half an ounce (14 grams) to be delivered throughout the whole country at the flat rate of one penny. This makes the Penny Black the ancestor from which all modern postage stamps are derived from 2015 marked the 175th anniversary of the Penny Black's adoption. Pos Malaysia marked this occasion by issuing a splendid miniature sheet first day cover featuring historic Malayan stamps on the obverse's left hand side and an integrated stamp worth RM 3 on the obverse's right hand side. There is something elegant about this FDC's design - in my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful issues I have seen for quite some time Condition as seen in photos - firm, clean Kuala Lumpur postal cancellation See Picture 2 for a close-up view of the MS There is also an official stamp insert that comes together with this FDC - it gives some general information about the Penny Black's history and mintage figures (see Picture 4) Will provide complimentary plastic OPP sleeves for long-term protection - if you want an extra sleeve so that you can house the stamp insert separately, just let me know; no extra charge Free normal mail to local destinations via Singpost at buyer's risk Registered mail available on request and at extra charge Payment via POSB/DBS bank transfer or PayPal Thanks for looking and check out my other Malaysian FDC listings if interested!
