Product description A story of tenacity, luck, toughness - and controversy. Joseph Isaac Gutnick - variously known as Diamond Joe for his mining exploits, Demon Joe for his presidency of the Melbourne Demons, and the Lubavitcher Rebbe's Special Emissary for the integrity of the Land of Israel is a fantastic mix of contradictions. All but wiped out in the 1987 stockmarket crash, he is one of the few high-flyers who managed to survive, and slowly work his way back to become one of Australia's wealthiest and most successful goldminers. About the Author David Bernstein is a freelance writer and journalist. A former Israeli, he served as a paratrooper in the Israeli army before going on to complete a BA in Middle Eastern Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and a PhD in English Literature at the University of Cambridge. He has worked as an Israel-based journalist for the Jerusalem Post, The Times, the Economist Intelligence Unit and Maclean's Magazine. Since emigrating to Australia in 1989 he has written extensively for the Australian Jewish News, the Age, the Sydney Morning Herald, the Australian, the Independent Monthly, and Generation Journal. He lives in Melbourne, is married and has two children.
