Just As I Am: The Autobiography of Billy Graham by Billy Graham A very thick book in Very Good Condition, Clean, Unmarked, foxed. Description - Hailed as "the world's preacher," Billy Graham has enjoyed a career that has spanned six decades and his ministry of faith has touched the hearts and souls of millions. In Just As I Am Graham reveals his life story in what the Chicago Tribune calls "a disarmingly honest autobiography." Now, in this revised and updated edition, we hear from this "lion in winter" (Time) on his role over the past ten years as America's pastor during our national crisis of the Oklahoma bombing and 9/11; his knighthood; his passing of the torch to his son, Franklin, to head the organization that bears his name; and his commitment to do the Lord's work in the years of his and his wife Ruth's physical decline. From farm boy to world's best-known preacher, Billy Graham is second only to the pope in matters of spiritual influence. Just As I Am is Graham's chronological account of his rise from his father's North Carolina farm, to his student days at Florida Bible Institute, his first successes at evangelizing, his presidency at Northwestern Schools, the great Los Angeles crusade that launched him into national recognition, his decades of evangelizing around the world, and his encounters and relationships with political figures across the globe. Unlike his fiery sermons, Graham speaks here in a low-key, self-deprecating tone, relating humorous anecdotes, such as his early sermon practices in a swamp, and the moral and apolitical foundation that has set his ministry apart from other well-known evangelists. Although Graham offers few insights into personal relationships with those around him or into his own struggles with faith and career, readers interested in the details of his crusades and other ministerial activities will not be disappointed. Graham was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on November 7, 1918, and founded the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in 1950. In this account, Graham looks back at his life with the down-to-earth warmth and candor that have always characterized his ministry. He remembers his early dairy farm days in Charlotte, his early preaching experiences, and his friendships with numerous presidents and international leaders. With a career spanning 50 years, Graham has been an influential advocate for desegregation and other social issues. His integrity and humility have made him one of the world's most respected leaders. The audio is read by Cliff Barrows, a longtime friend of Graham's. This will be a treasured addition to any library collection. Public libraries should order several copies, as this will certainly be in demand. Highly recommended. Ravonne A. Green, Emmanuel Coll. Lib., Franklin Springs, Ga. Amazon Book Reviews - 1) A Pleasure to Read - By J. Michael Nace This book surprised me in a positive way. The intricate details of his past 80+ years are incredibly and meticulously recounted with details that left me with the impression he either has a phenomenal memory or took copious notes over the years or both. As it turns out he had assistance recalling details but this still is an incredible account. Mr Graham's human shortcomings and fears as well as his mistakes are all included, particularly near the end of the book when he shares on what he would do differently if he could live his life over. There are some surprises there. I especially appreciated the candidness in the areas of what went on behind the scenes of his life and ministry. I also appreciated the personal standards for ministry [pps. 128-129] he established in the early years with his staff to avoid scandal, a standard he kept through the years leading to the respect he has earned to this day. It is a page-turner and reads easily and holds your attention. For an autobiography this was a pleasant surprise and a pleasure to read. I learned a lot from it. His life has been nothing short of amazing as you read about the unbelievable travels and things that happened along the way, his private reflections and incidents that have taken place over the years. You will understand Billy Graham in a new way. You may leave with a complete new image of Billy Graham. 2) Wow, what an amazing story - By April (Nelson, NZ) I found this book really awe inspiring.
