Mustard 'Osaka Purple' (Brassica Japonica) - An outstanding mustard of dark green-purple leaves with bright white veins. The large rounded purple leaves of this Japanese mustard are beautiful, pungent and sharp. Both leaves and stems can be pickled, stir-fry, steamed or added to salad. Posses warm, peppery flavour with a slight spicy notes. Hardy, tolerates cold weather. Harvest at 4 to 6 inches for salad or allow it to grow to full size for boiling greens. Fast and easy to grow, great crop for spring, or fall into early winter. Adds brilliant touch to the daily meals!
Growing: Start seeds indoors and transplant out before the frost, or sow seeds directly a few weeks before the last frost. Plant inside fertile, well-drained soil, preferably rich in organic matter with a pH of 6-7.5. Water regularly to make sure the soil is well moist to avoid bitterness. Regular fertilising is recommended to promote healthy and robust growth. Takes 40-80 days to full maturity. Can be planted year round in hot climates.
