The smart Alex had spoken nonsense again. Same bidder no bidding for last 6 months? Wonder how he can know that when the id of the bidder is not even show. Just full of bullshit and trying to be the hero here. By the way, if you ever bid on my notes pls read through my terms and conditions, it will scare of most local bidders.

Posting of eBay auction results at a Carousell seller’s request

For the benefit of new collectors, I sometimes post eBay auction results of items I’m interested in. I’m not interested in the portrait series or Singapore commemorative notes, so I stopped tracking or posting their auction results. Today, I received a private messenger from a Carousell seller, asking why I haven’t post the results from some latest eBay Auctions. He was even kind enough to capture the screen for me. I told him that he can post them himself but he countered that there shouldn’t be multiple source (I don’t know Carousell posting is proprietary, and surely didn’t think it should). In any case, the request triggered my curiosity so I checked the results. As you can see, all the Auctions were won by the same bidder. In fact, this bidder has no activity for the past 30 days but decided to bid, and won, seven items from the same seller, including the three notes. Very interesting. Either this bidder has developed serious affinity for the portrait series suddenly, or, well, draw your own conclusions. I checked the feedback that seller posts on buyers, typically when buyers paid up, but there wasn’t any for this bidder. Many possible scenario to explain that. Maybe the seller was busy. Maybe the buyer hasn’t paid. Maybe the seller does not intend to pay. Banknote collecting is a great pastime, and there’s no need for skullduggery. Market prices should be transparent to all, but new collectors should be mindful of price manipulation. That banknote that you want may look irresistible, but if the asking price is too high, walk away. Make reference to past transacted prices, especially those on Carousell, with caution. Use the lowest or mode transacted price rather than the highest as the benchmark. And trust me on this, walking away from an inflated banknote will actually improve your life fundamentally. Plus the Singapore numismatic market is very small, so you will bound to see the same or better one in the near future. And to that Carousell seller who messaged me: you’ve been blocked, so don’t bother. Postscript: I was made aware that the Carousell seller who made the request to me has posted the results. So everyone knows who he is. I’ll add one more point. Have a look at the bidding history. A couple of the notes were bidder up by the same two bidders. The third highest bid was way lower. Those bids may be real, or not. There’s an old trick that ebayers use to prop up prices using two accounts. The winning account then simply defaults on payment and the account is abandoned. Decide for yourself. I was moving house recently, and was packing first edition books kept in the closet. Funny how the household pests react violently when the door was opened and light shone through.
