A plant of the lowland tropics, the sweet prayer plant is a herbaceous clumping shrub with no apparent stems above ground surface, but has slender underground rhizomes. The large and papery leaves are held on thin but stiff petioles (leaf stalks), making them sway gracefully in the gentle breeze. The plant may also produce pale purplish-pink flowers, but is more common after a year of growth. Plants that are 2 years or older even produces edible fruits ;) Thaumatococcus daniellii likes humidity and lots of water. It can take full sun, as long as sufficient water is provided, if not the miracle berry also grows well in a shady position. Propagate by division of plants and rhizomes, suckers or seeds.
