Scaling down on my watch collection due to insufficient wrist time. These are watches that I love very much, and which I use. I don’t baby my watches as I believe they are meant to be used as a tool, so some scuffs and desk diving marks are present. Having said that, I certainly do not abuse them either. You are most welcome to view the watches in person - at no obligations - to ascertain the condition for yourself. Viewing at Punggol MRT / Waterway Point. Now, this piece. If you are familiar with the history of the pilot wristwatch, you will be familiar with the Cartier Santos Dumont; it was the world’s first pilot watch. While today some might only see the Cartier brand as a fashion powerhouse, it is hard to deny the horological heritage of Cartier. Opposed to its bigger, modern and highly popular brethren, this rather rare vintage piece is elegantly smaller in a beautiful 18K yellow gold case. And IMO smaller is by no means any less masculine. If the likes of the Cartier tank was good enough for the legendary Muhammad Ali, then it most probably is good enough for you. I’ll be honest with you and have you know that I first fell in love with this watch when I saw pictures of it circulating around on the internet - on Hodinkee, and on Theo and Harris. This watch pairs exceedingly well with a tan, calf leather strap - last two images for your reference (those images sourced from online and are not of actual watch, although it’s the exact same model). It took me ages before I found an exact same piece. I am reluctantly parting ways with it because I hardly wear leather straps nowadays due to the nature of my job. If not it would surely be a permanent part of my collection. You should note that the watchback has an engraving from its previous owner - “To Bud, All my Love, Chris”. I personally feel it adds a certain charm; what a fortunate man, this Bud. And you could be as fortunate as him too :) As this is a vintage piece (I suspect circa 1980s), do expect a fair amount of scuffs on the case and crystal, although nothing too serious. Again, you are welcome to take a look. It is signed “Swiss” at 6pm and you will also notice Cartier’s secret signature at the 7 o’clock marker - one of the ways back then to authenticate the watch. Movement: Cartier 78-1 (based off ETA 2512-1)
Dimensions: 25mm (L) x 24mm (W) Lug to Lug: 36.5mm
Lug Width: about 16 mm
The self-winding is smooth and the watch is keeping time well, though service history is largely unknown. Comes with original Cartier croc leather black strap (made in France), original papers, and service papers at Cartier’s Beverly Hills service centre dated 1996. All in an original Cartier pouch. I am also throwing in a custom made Jean Rousseau calf leather strap in black which cost 145 Euros on its own. Authentication of the watch most welcome at buyer’s cost. No trades please and lowballers please stay away. Thanks for looking!
