Winner Announcement date: 30 November 2019. “My box contains books about the "softer side" of building a company. It's not often talked about, but it is crucial. Here are my items with brief notes. 1. “Beyond Measure: The Big Impact of Small Changes” by Margaret Heffernan Through this book, I learned how even the smallest actions could significantly affect organizations. The author doesn't list "5 things to do" or "6 laws to follow." Instead, she cites case studies and offers lessons that are pretty contradicting – something that Heffernan admits – that paint a more realistic picture of the company-building journey. 2. "Purpose Incorporated: Turning Cause Into Competitive Advantage" by Amalia McGibbon and John Wood Building a business shouldn't be all about making a profit. This book challenges founders and leaders to achieve both purpose and the company's bottom line. Companies like Carousell is a good example. Oh, and fun fact: Nick Nash gave this book to me. 3. "Seven Tips for a Happy Life" by Ven Thubten Chodron I chanced upon this book at a nonprofit establishment when I was going through a challenging period. This book provides sound life advice and encourages me to become a better version of myself, someone hopefully more compassionate and mindful. It's super easy to read – you can finish this book within 30 minutes.” When reboxing leads to new possibilities, #EveryoneWins.
