George Peet (1902-1985) was a well known English-born Straits Times journalist and editor who came to Singapore in 1923. His granddaughter has edited Peet's records of the years 1942-45 when, when during WWII, he was interned in Singapore. When the Japanese captured Singapore in February 1942, the European population was rounded up and sent to internment camps, where they were kept till the end of the war. This is the story of one such internee – George L. Peet – whose diaries and records preserve a stunningly vivid portrait of the triumph of the human spirit in those trying times.
